Frequently asked questions
Is WhichDist an Excel Add-in or an add-on?
It is an Add-in (Office.js), the official Microsoft extensibility model.
Does Free require an account?
No. Free analysis works offline with no sign-in.
Is my data uploaded?
Not for Free analysis — your sample stays in Excel and is never uploaded.
Which Excel versions are supported?
Excel 2016, 2019, 2021, 2024 and Microsoft 365 (Windows & Mac), plus Excel on the web. Excel 2013 and 2010 are not supported — Microsoft's web add-in platform (Office.js) requires Excel 2016 or later.
Can I use WhichDist in Google Sheets?
Not directly. WhichDist is a Microsoft Office add-in (built on Office.js), and Google Sheets uses a different, incompatible add-in platform — so the manifest can’t be installed there. You can still use WhichDist for free in Excel on the web (excel.office.com) with a free Microsoft account: paste or import your data and analyze it there. A native Google Sheets version isn’t available yet.
How do you choose the “best” distribution?
An AICc-led composite score, always showing Anderson–Darling and Kolmogorov–Smirnov (χ² for discrete). It reports the best supported family among candidates — never an absolute truth claim.
What are engineering major packs?
Extra families tailored to a discipline (e.g. reliability, hydrology, telecom) that join the Core catalog when you pick your major.
How do student/instructor discounts work?
50% off after verifying a .edu email via a one-time code — the same rate for students and instructors.
Can I export to Arena / Simio / AnyLogic / Python / R?
Yes, on Pro. Free includes Excel + JSON.
How do I install from this website?
See the Download page for AppSource and manual sideload steps.
How do I manage billing?
Through the Stripe Customer Portal, linked from your Account pane and emails.
What does Pro cost?
$0.99/month, or $0.79/month billed yearly ($9.48/year); half price with a verified .edu email.
Is this related to WhichForecast?
Yes. WhichForecast is the sister add-in for which forecast fits your data? Same owner (NCU Technology), same guided Excel pattern, different engine. WhichDist does not forecast time series.
